We are seeking an experienced, reliable and safety-conscious Digger Driver / Excavator Operator / Groundworker to join a busy team working on a self-employed contractor basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to secure ongoing work across a variety of high-end residential construction and landscaping projects, including house extensions, new build developments, drainage installations, structural groundworks and major garden transformations.
The successful candidate will be confident operating a range of excavators, while also being willing to assist with groundwork and site operations as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate excavators including:
- Micro excavators (0.8-1 tonne)
- 1.5-3 tonne excavators
- 5 tonne excavators
- Excavate foundations for house extensions and new build projects.
- Dig footings in accordance with engineers’ drawings and building regulations.
- Complete site clearance and preparation works.
- Undertake garden excavations and landscaping projects.
- Carry out levelling and grading activities.
- Perform drainage excavations and assist with installation works.
- Excavate trenches for utilities and services.
- Load grab lorries, skips and dumpers.
- Support demolition and strip-out works when required.
- Conduct daily machinery safety inspections and basic maintenance checks.
- Work safely around existing buildings, services and infrastructure.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment.
- Collaborate effectively with site managers, clients and other trades to ensure projects are delivered on schedule.
- Attend the company yard when required and travel daily to site locations.
Essential Requirements
- Valid CSCS Card.
- UTR registered and eligible to work as a self-employed contractor.
- CPCS or NPORS Excavator Operator qualification preferred.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Proven experience operating excavators on domestic construction projects.
- Strong understanding of safe excavation and digging practices.
- Ability to read and interpret site drawings and setting out information.
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Own transport preferred due to varying site locations and occasional yard visits.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using laser levels.
- Dumper and/or roller tickets.
- Experience in drainage installation and general groundwork.
- Ability to assist with groundwork activities when machine work is completed.
- First Aid qualification.
- Street Works or utility experience.
