Trade Recruit is proud to be recruiting on behalf of one of our prestigious clients based in Birmingham — MW Phillips — for a driven Practice Manager (Optical).
This is a hands-on, KPI-focused leadership role where you will take full ownership of the day-to-day running of a busy optical practice. You will play a key role in driving commercial performance, enhancing the patient experience, and leading a small, high-performing team. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Practice Manager or a Senior Optical Assistant / Optical Assistant ready to step up into a leadership role, offering real responsibility, autonomy, and the chance to make a meaningful impact.
Location & Working Pattern
- Location: Handsworth or Acocks Green
- (with flexibility to support nearby MW Phillips practices if required)
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Working Hours: 9:00am – 6:00pm
- Working Pattern: 5 days per week, Monday to Saturday on a rota basis (including some weekends)
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the practice and oversee team performance
- Drive sales revenue, conversion rates, and average dispensing value (ADV)
- Promote and increase uptake of OCT and enhanced optical services
- Deliver a seamless patient journey from eye test through to dispensing
- Manage staff rotas, training, coaching, and performance reviews
- Ensure full NHS compliance (GOS, CUES, DES) and accurate claims processing
- Handle patient queries and complaints in a professional manner
- Monitor, analyse, and report on key business KPIs and performance metrics
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in optics (Optical Assistant, Team Leader, or Manager level)
- Strong leadership potential with confidence to step into a management role
- Commercial mindset with a focus on targets, KPIs, and results
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment
Desirable:
- Previous management or team leader experience
- Punjabi language skills (advantageous due to patient demographic)
